I am thrilled to be able to announce the opening of The Petchey Academy in its ‘state of the art’, purpose designed new building on Shacklewell Lane. The building is truly outstanding and is going to offer both students and educators a marvelous facility to promote learning and success.
The Petchey Academy has a very innovative approach to delivering the educational experience. From Year 7 onwards students are offered a degree of choice to prepare them for becoming independent learners and to enable them to take responsibility for their own progress and success. The curriculum is thematic in approach and is designed to provide students with a global, rather than a Euro-centric, perspective and understanding of the world.
As an Academy specialising in health, social care and medical sciences we place great stress on healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. With our partner institutions such as the ‘Centre for the cell’ at Queen Mary College, University of London, the University of East London and the Hackney and City Primary Health Care Trust amongst other, we aim to develop a challenging, broad academic and vocational curriculum.
We expect our students to succeed across a wide range of activities and academic goals. Failure for us is not an option and by careful tracking of every individual student and the provision of appropriate support, we will ensure the potential of all is recognized and fostered to achieve success.
Over the forthcoming months a new website will be populated with a range if information. Parents and carers will have online access to their child’s academic and social development records. Educators and students will have access to their work and to a vast resource of learning materials via our Virtual Management Environment (VME). The general public will be able to access details about the life of the academy and its ethos.
