Applemore College is a self-governing Foundation Specialist Technology College and is one of the institutions which form the Waterside. Traditionally Applemore serves the area of Marchwood and Pooks Green, part of Dibden Purlieu (Wildground and Butts Ash), a small part of Hythe, and an area into the New Forest that roughly constitutes Beaulieu Heath. It has been accredited as a Specialist College since 1994. It needs to be noted that legally the notion of catchment areas no longer exists, and increasingly the College regularly recruits beyond traditionally identified areas.
Applemore College was built in 1969, as a comprehensive co-educational school. There are approximately 650 students on roll. There is a traditional intake from four feeder schools, along with significant numbers from other more distant feeder schools.
Applemore College occupies a pleasant site; within the confines of its campus is Oak Lodge, a small special school for pupils who have difficulty with mainstream comprehensive schooling. Oak Lodge has about 120 students and is a separate provision from Applemore. The Headteach is Mrs Beverly Hawker. It is possible for individual students from Oak Lodge to attend some lessons at Applemore College, where integration seems desirable for the child. Applemore works with EOTAS on inclusion initiatives.
Applemore Recreation Centre is also on the campus but independently run. It has a wide variety of sporting and recreational amenities. During College hours it operates as joint provision with the College for PE activities.
