Barclay School
In May 2006 OFSTED described the school as being ‘Good with some outstanding features’. Our work as a Specialist Technology College was highlighted as a particular strength. We intend to ensure that the Outstanding exceeds the Good at the next inspection.
To achieve this we are concentrating on learning and, in particular, on helping students to become more independent learners and take more responsibility for their learning. Excellent teaching, very good facilities and resources and high standards of discipline are keys to achieving this. We are also introducing new methods of involving students in setting targets and monitoring their progress.
Barclay embraced the Every Child Matters agenda long before it was introduced by the government. We have an excellent record of supporting students with Special/Additional Educational Needs and also provide superb opportunities for Gifted and Talented students. We recognise that many students do not fit into either of these categories on paper but all have abilities and needs. Therefore we support and challenge all our students and we are proud of all their achievements.
Visitors often remark that there is something very special about the Barclay school. I sensed it when I first came here for interview and it has kept me here ever since. Perhaps it originates in 58 years of successful relationships with local families and communities. Please come and visit us to experience it for yourself.
