Parmiter's School was founded in 1681 in Bethnal Green, London, based on the will of Thomas Parmiter, a silk merchant.
The school moved to Hertfordshire in 1977 and was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 11 December 1981. From September 1991 to August 1999, Parmiter's was a Grant Maintained school but returned to Voluntary Aided status in September 1999. The school became a Specialist School technology college in September 2000 and a music college in 2005.
Parmiter's is a co-educational, all-ability school of 1240 boys and girls, including over 300 students in the Sixth Form. There is a teaching staff of over 80 specialist teachers, who are strongly supported in their work by the 50 members of the non-teaching staff.
