Mount Carmel is a successful, oversubscribed 11-16, inner city Catholic Technology College for girls. As a Voluntary Aided School under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Westminster, all staff appointments are made to the service of the governors.
"The College is a good improving school with many very good features". (Ofsted May 2004). It has been recognised by Ofsted as an improving school and has been highly praised in the most recent Ofsted (May 2004). The College was awarded school achievement awards on three occasions, in 2000, 2001 and 2003. In 2002 we were placed in the top twenty schools nationally for value added. We consistently achieve some of the best GCSE and Key Stage 3 results within the borough.
The staff are exceptionally able and committed, with teaching staff well supported by an expanding range of non teaching staff who fully share the College's commitment to success and learning. Our Investors in People award recognises our commitment to staff development and training. Our students come from a wide area covering Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Camden.
They come from culturally diverse backgrounds. 73% of our students have different ethnic backgrounds and 37% from homes where English is the second language. 85% of our students go on to further and then higher education.
