Chessington Community College

Occupies an attractive site in the South of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames and serves the community as an 11-18 co-educational school. It is just 12 years since the College adopted its new name and status and in that period it has developed a tradition of continuous academic success at both GCSE and 'A' level. As a result, it has grown rapidly, doubling its student role in that time. In 1996 this success was acknowledged with the College being mentioned in Her Majesty's Chief Inspector's Annual Report to the Government as an improved school and this was followed by a visit by the then Minister for Education.

The education offered at Chessington Community College is designed to realise the true potential of a child, regardless of ability. If a child has a high academic capability they are identified quickly and their progress closely monitored. This is reflected in the high number of children gaining A*-C grades at GCSE. Equally if a child has learning difficulties additional support is given from an experienced team of specialists. The College prides itself on its high standards of personal achievement, appearance and good discipline, and promotes the qualities of care, courtesy and consideration for others at all times. As the College lies in the south of the borough it runs it own mini bus service for pupils who do not live within easy reach of the College. The College is only 12 minutes by train from Wimbledon, the Chessington South Station being located by the side of the College.

ofsted report in 2008

'Chessington Community College has a very committed staff who believe in the children and want them to achieve'; this sums up the views of most parents. The college is a very caring and well-managed community where racial harmony and inclusion are strong features. Most students enjoy their time in college and are particularly proud of the sporting opportunities that are available through the college's specialist sports status. Students are keen to take on responsibilities through supporting the work of the school council and taking part in active citizenship. Many students provide good service to their community through fundraising and their work in supporting primary school pupils. They are excited about the new opportunities that will be available when the building work is completed and are very positive about the benefits the new college will bring.'
