Humanities teacher needed at improving and expanding academy in South London – to start after half term, although the right candidate could start immediately
This is a small, mixed, 11-18 community academy in South London. The school gained academy status in 2010 and opened a new sixth form centre in 2012. Building work is underway to improve, extend and modernise facilities, and should be completed by the end of the academic year. Since converting to academy status, the school has made huge improvements in the achievement of its pupils. Last year, 63% of pupils gained 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths at GCSE, compared to 41% two years previously, and 23% four years previously.
The school is committed to making sure that every student makes outstanding progress. It has high expectations of every student and insists on the highest standards of behaviour and respect. It offers a wide range of enrichment activities to extend learning in a range of contexts and promotes leadership, teamwork, reflection, confidence and high self-esteem.
Ofsted commented that “the academy received ministerial recognition for improving students’ progress and was in the top 100 schools for this achievement” and “Behaviour has been transformed since the academy opened. It is a calm and well-ordered place to learn.”
