Physics teaching job at improving academy in south west London

Physics teacher needed for improving school in SW London

This school is a co-educational, 11-18 academy.  It is located in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and is easily accessible by train from Waterloo.

Having been completely rebuilt (at a cost of £27 million), the school has a modern theatre, dance studio, sports hall, climbing wall and outdoor sports pitches. The school makes full advantage of its superb facilities, not just for the curriculum, but also for a wide range of extra-curricular indoor and outdoor enrichment activities.

The school’s curriculum is specially designed to meet the needs of all students, including the most academically able and those for whom more practical studies are more appropriate. In particular, Year 7 students have much of their lesson time with a small number of teachers with whom they can develop strong trusting relationships. The KS4 curriculum provides choice and breadth (including a carefully constructed ‘pathway’ for the most academic students to undertake the ‘English Baccalaureate’).

Ofsted deemed this school to “require improvement” in 2013, and the headteacher responded to this by recruiting a new senior leadership team to drive improvement to teaching and students’ achievement.  Oftsed reported that “Behaviour of students outside of the classroom is generally good. Students are usually polite and courteous to each other” and “The students feel very safe in the college and they report that bullying is not an issue.”

The headteacher wishes to appoint a new teacher of Physics for a long term role, starting as soon as possible, which could lead to a permanent position for the right candidate. To be considered for this position, you will need the following qualities:

  • QTS and eligibility to work in the UK
  • At least one year’s experience teaching Physics up to GCSE level
  • Positive and motivational approach to behaviour management
  • Patient, creative and supportive attitude
  • Ability to work as part of a team or using your own initiative
